While headlines are shouting about multi-billion dollar data center expansions and sovereign AI initiatives, there’s a subtler, more profound transformation happening underneath: the shift to Agentic AI.
For the past few years, we’ve gotten used to AI as a collaborator—a spark for writing, a debugger for code, or a summarizer of documents. We drive, it assists. But we are crossing a threshold where the AI is beginning to drive, too.
From "Prompting" to "Delegating"
The transition from a generative model to an agent is more than just a performance boost; it’s a change in the cognitive load of work. When I think about my own creative process, I’ve spent years mastering the art of the prompt. I craft questions; I curate inputs; I synthesize.
But Agentic systems—those designed to execute multi-step tasks with minimal supervision—demand something else entirely: Trust.
When an AI system can conduct competitive research, manage a multi-channel marketing campaign, or handle complex logistics without me holding its digital hand at every step, the nature of my "job" changes. I am no longer a pilot; I am a manager. My value shifts from the how to the why and the what.

This isn't just about efficiency. It’s about the friction of control. We, as humans, are notoriously bad at relinquishing it. We like to see the process. We like to feel the gears turning. But the promise of these agentic workflows is that they can handle the mundane, high-context coordination that clutters our days, leaving us free to focus on the high-level intuition that machines still struggle to replicate.
The real challenge, of course, is the "smart immune system for the internet"—as our agents become more autonomous, so do the defensive systems protecting our digital infrastructure. As we delegate more power to these systems, we have to grapple with what it means to be responsible for outcomes generated by a system that we don't fully understand in its step-by-step reasoning.
A Reflective Path Forward
As I look at this trend, I’m reminded that technology rarely makes things simpler; it just makes things different.
We are entering an era of "End of App Switching." Soon, the dominant interface will be a single, AI-native environment that anticipates our needs and executes tasks across every digital platform we touch. It sounds like convenience, but it also sounds like a world where our attention will be the most contested resource.
My hope for the "Agentic Shift" isn’t just that we get more done. It’s that we get to be more human. If we can effectively delegate the drudgery, what will we choose to do with the time that remains?
That, I think, is the most interesting question for the second half of 2026.
